One of the most fun characters to make in my #sixfanarts challenge was Azog from The Hobbit and I couldn't wait to put some color on it.
I remember when I first saw this character in the theater, I though visually he was so cool! :D

Strahd Von Zarovich Fanart

Count Strahd Von Zarovich has emerged from the Mists!
I would absolutely love to play the Ravenloft D&D adventure and face him and with his moving castle! :D
Also, I’m starting the 3rd season of Castlevania, so I’m deep into the theme! :) 

Drizzt Do'Urden Fanart

Another fanart and this time I chose Drizzt! It’s always fun to draw a cool Elf, specially one that’s shorter than me :P

Vampiress Fanart – Talisman

In our house we are major board game players, and Talisman is definitely a favorite!
So it was only right that I made a fanart of Vampiress, one of the most posh characters in the game :)

Dwarf – The Beginning of a Journey

So, for a long time now I've been a fan of Fantasy themed lore and art.
It probably began with the King Arthur's legend – first in the Disney movie The Sword in the Stone and then the movie Excalibur (1981) – and later on with Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves movie back in 1991. But it reeeeaally kicked in when Lord of the Rings came out!

In spite of my love for this incredible realm, my career as an artist led me to different paths and never got to really dedicate myself to create fantasy art. So, as I'm finally taking a step towards my goal of being a Fantasy Artist, I made this tryout of a Dwarf without going crazy with the time spent on it or creating a background for the character. My goal was to explore visually where I stand as an artist and having some fun with it.

This was really fun to make and I got to experiment a lot. I think it turned out OK for the first tryout and I’ll be making a few more of these soon. ;)

Here is the process:

Bordallo Pinheiro Sardine from Lisbon’s Festivities

A little bit of an introduction to this post.
So, each year my home town Lisbon celebrates it's local festivities in June and, like in every country of southern Europe, we celebrate with lots of food (and drinks) :D
The delicacy of this particular festival is the overly abundant in our seas – Sardine.

In the spirit of these celebrations, our city hall launches a big annual international art contest, in which the participants are challenge to create art within the outlines of a sardine shape and 6 out of thousand of submissions are selected by a jury to be the winners.

So, in 2016 I entered the contest and made up to the top 20. Although I didn't win, this led to my sardine being selected to be part of the new batch of the exclusive Bordallo Pinheiro Sardine Collection (which are clay shaped sardines with our art printed on it) to be sold to the general public.
This invitation came in 2018, and by the start of 2019 my 3D sardine was already for sale in all Vista Alegre stores as well as online.

I had to adjust the 2D drawing submission to be wrapped around a 3D piece, and so I had to also design the back piece for it.

Six Fanarts Challenge

My entry for the #sixfanarts challenge. 

I had to be quick so I only did B&W portraits. 
I asked my wife and sister to choose one each and then I realized all my picks have scars... O_O''

Rock Study and the Return of the Missing Artist

After a long hiatus, this blog is coming back to life! O_O
I'm back with a quick rock study, made to practice my rock skills. I love rocks. When I was a kid, I collected rocks and gave them crazy names, made an exhibition that was a success – all my 2 parents and my grandma attended :D

The process was quite organic, and was almost as I was sculpting a big block of rock myself. The water was an afterthought that I found worked quite well.

Under maintenance

This blog had some abandonment issues, so it is currently under maintenance and great care.
I hope to come back soon enough and give it a proper use.

Concept Satã - Zakarella

Shame on me, it has been almost a year since I last updated this blog. O_O
A lot has happened on a personal level that got me on a sort of hiatus (well, not for a whole year, though e_e), but now I'm back to work!

As I posted before, I've been working on a project for a comic book - Zakarella. This is Satã, one of the princes of Infernus! Yes he is a bad guy and he has kept Zakarella as his personal slave. As I have to draw him a lot, I felt like I needed to explore his features in a more three dimensional way and also the textures since he's a reptile. It was fun since I started to sculpting the shapes through painting instead of starting off with a line sketch.. I like sculpting :}
